Like the heart spam teams, these sellers refused to limit their activities to members of their teams and insisted in trying to drag the rest of us into promotions they had decided we should participate in. In the end they were responsible for the demise of treasuries. Maybe we should have the ability to create them in our own shops.
Meaning that the only people to look at them would be visitors to our shops. Someone favorited an item of mine today, and next to it in her favorites was a gorgeous bowl that coordinated with the quilt!
It would be nice to have a mood board kind of thing to share with customers. Try and make do with that because we really need Etsy to step up and fix all the things, not give them something else to muck up. No thanks, they served no useful purpose as far as shop management goes, they were a nice distraction, but tended to get annoying when shared on social media etc.
It was nice to see a notification that one of your items was included in a treasury, but I can honestly say I never got a sa le I could identify as coming from a treasury, so the time spent dealing with notifications, likes and repins etc was not productive. The benefited a very small niche of sellers, with a niche aesthetic. As much as I hate the front page, now, having it personalized makes a LOT more sense for buyers despite its flaws. When they were retired, etsy stated they did not result in sales, so why waste a noticeable number of sales, so why devote the entire front page to them.
I really liked treasuries! I only notified the people I featured in treasuries. I didn't spam anyone with them. It only takes a few people to ruin things for everyone. A "Hey you are in this treasury" was never a bother.
I was happy to be included. It was the ones who used your item then gave you a worklist and inferred or outright said you Owed them that left the bas taste.
But yes buyers are better off seeing items they may like than random pretty stuff the have no interest in. It got to be almost a recipe.. The new factor people need to consider is this: conversion has clearly become an important element in Etsy's search.
The more people that click on your item and don't purchase, the lower that item's conversion score will be. And that means marketing to groups that are not all that likely to buy, namely other sellers, is more damaging than helpful. And let's face it, after they were no longer on the front page, almost no one saw them except other sellers. Etsy actually stopped having treasuries when the company that supported the underlying software stopped updating it.
Toward the end, they caused more problems for etsy than they were worth. Whether you miss them or not or etsy would like to bring them back, they won't. I was happy with treasury.
When I was featured in one I had in a night the double of views that now I get in a year. I think treasuries served their purpose when Etsy was smaller, but to feature so few sellers with anyone treasury is not appropriate or consistent with the Etsy that now exists.
They were nice looking, but that is about all. Sign In Help. Learn more here. Turn on suggestions. Another seller explained that while they had never made an immediate purchase from a Treasury, the feature had influenced future purchases, since it helped them find sellers to follow from whom they purchased at a later time.
Did I buy things directly from one feature in a treasury, no not that I can recall. However, I found through treasuries people I wished to follow both those who created fabulous treasuries and those who were featured in them. In finding and following them through treasuries, I did then later buy. It was based on having originally becoming aware of all these wonderful sellers through treasuries Another seller said Treasuries were an important part of her team's online marketing for their forthcoming Etsy Made Local holiday craft fair - "we now need to reorganise and re-think a publicity campaign that was already established and ongoing.
We are losing a part of what made Etsy special. Etsy said its data showed few buyers viewed Treasuries, and even fewer purchased from them. It's hard to understand the disconnect since, in general, sellers don't spend a lot of time on activities they feel aren't worth the effort. One seller wrote, "Team Treasuries is how I make the majority of my sales. I don't understand the purpose for this change. I cannot afford to purchase ads on Etsy for all my objects. As a relatively new seller, I rely on small sales.
Etsy does offer sellers a way to give their listings extra exposure through a paid program called Promoted Listings, and in August, Etsy revealed that revenue through the program grew faster than Marketplace revenue in the second quarter. From Etsy's announcement: "On October 5, we will be removing links to the Treasuries page from buyer access points, including the homepage, Favorites page and user profile.
Existing Treasuries will still be accessible, and we do not have current plans to remove these from the site. External links to Treasury pages will continue to function, and buyers can still purchase available items from these Treasuries. Let us know what you think of Etsy's decision to retire Treasury.

Sellers were quick to point out that over 1, users had previously signed a petition to bring back treasuries to the home page, and the petition saw renewed activity on Wednesday, such as the following comment left by a seller: "Treasuries are a good marketing tool within Etsy for shops to get their items noticed by buyers. They've been gone years now:Etsy isn't the site it used to be and they probably feel it won't bring in sales from today's customers.
Treasuries were good wayyyy back when there was a limited number and it was something special to grab one or be featured in one. They lost their magic when anyone could make any number at any time. Then they got taken over by the Treasury team games Then Etsy changed the design of the front page so Treasuries were no longer featured there. In the end they just stopped bringing in sufficient sales to be worth while to Etsy to maintain them. I agree, sometimes I just want to browse Etsy without having to pick a category.
It was fun to discover things you would never think to even search for. Now I rarely browse, just look when I have something specific to search for. Sign In Help. Learn more here.
